Caroline Mwongera

Dr. Caroline Mwongera is a Scientist at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) specializing in farming systems and climate change. Her current focus is on promoting wide-scale adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices in East Africa, evaluating trade-offs and barriers.

Caroline earned her PhD in 2012 from Montpelier SupAgro in France, specializing in Ecology and Genetic resources. Her thesis was titled “How smallholder farmers cope with climate variability: A case study of the Eastern slope of Mount Kenya”.

Dr Mwongera has over 10 years’ experience in African smallholder farming systems, assessing multi-crops production and adaptation to climate change. Her research interests are in understanding the complex dynamics of smallholder farming systems and adaptation and mitigation strategies to climate change, integrating mixed methods approaches.
